Geopier RampactTM


The Geopier Rampact System is extremely cost effective for installations in soils subject to caving because construction is facilitated using a patented displacement mandrel, eliminating casing risks. The system is ideally suited for contaminated sites where spoils or overexcavation are not viable options. Geopier Rampact solutions replace massive overexcavation and replacement and deep foundations, including driven piles, drilled shafts or augered cast-in-place piles. The Geopier Rampact System Construction Process

  1. A specially designed hollow mandrel is driven into the ground using a powerful static down force augmented by high frequency vertical impact energy. Depths normally range from about 10 to 20 feet, depending on design requirements. A sacrificial cap or internal compaction mechanism prevents soil from entering the tamper foot and mandrel during driving. The spoil-less process displaces soils laterally, densifying and reinforcing the existing soils
  2. After driving to design depth, the hollow mandrel serves as a conduit for aggregate placement. Aggregate is placed inside the mandrel. The mandrel is then raised and redriven downward to form a thin compacted lift. Compaction is achieved through static downforce and dynamic vertical ramming from the hammer and the internal compaction surface. The process densifies aggregate vertically and the patented tamper/mandrel forces aggregate laterally into the loose or soft matrix soil. This results in soil improvement and lateral stress increase to provide excellent coupling with surrounding soils and reliable settlement control with superior strength and stiffness.
  3. Following installation, the Rammed Aggregate Pier® (RAP) elements support shallow foundations, floor slabs and mats. The applied stresses are attracted to the stiff RAP elements, resulting in engineered settlement control. The system also reduces liquefaction potential and improves stability for support of embankments, walls and tanks.
